When a Standard Commission Isn’t Enough

Special Commissions are for pieces that sit beyond everyday categories — a distinctive silhouette, an uncommon fabric, or a garment built around a specific moment.

We work closely with you to refine the idea, then translate it into a finished piece that feels unmistakably yours.

The Couture Process

Every Special Commission is different, but most follow a considered sequence:

  1. Consultation and concept refinement
  2. Cloth and detail selection
  3. Pattern development and first fitting
  4. Refinement fittings and finishing
  5. Final delivery

If you’re working to an event date, include it in your enquiry and we’ll advise the most realistic timeline

Where We Meet

Special Commissions are undertaken at our Nelson atelier. Clients travel from across New Zealand to work with us, allowing the time and continuity required for carefully developed garments.

Appointments are arranged privately for each commission.

Begin a Special Commission

If you’re considering a one-of-one piece, the most useful first step is a clear outline of what you’re imagining — the occasion (if any), the level of formality, and how you want the garment to feel when you wear it.

You don’t need a finished concept. A few reference images, a fabric idea, or even a short description is enough. We’ll review your enquiry, advise whether your request is best suited to a Special Commission, and respond with the most appropriate next step and appointment options.

If you’re working to a deadline, include your date so we can confirm realistic timing from the outset.
